How does Thomas Hunt Morgan's experiment with fruit flies prove that gene traits are carried on chromosoms?

Answer #1

Ans. The chomosome theory of inheritance was proposed beofore it was proved experimentally by Sutton and Boveri published independently . After, the scientist  Thomas Hunt Morgan's by his experiment with the fruits flies proves this theory. T.H morgan saw that there is a mutation in a gene affecting fly eye color, making fly's eyes white, rather than their normal red. Thus, he found out that there is a different pattern of ineritance of the eye color with respect to male and female flies. As male have X and Y chromosomes and females have X and X chromosomes, it didnt took morgan too long to realize that eye color gene was being inherited in the same pattern as the X chromosome. Thus he concluded that the gene trait are carried on chromosomes.

Recitation 5 short-answer assignment You are investigating two traits in fruit flies controlled by one gene each. The b gene controls for body color (black or brown), while the r gene controls for body sculpture (rugose or smooth). After crossing rugose black flies with smooth brown flies, you obtain an F1 generation of 100% smooth black flies. What are the dominant alleles? Question text In drosophila (fruit flies): The yellow gene is on the X-chromosome, the gene product plays a role in body colour. Wild type flies are a light brown/tan in colour, homozygote yellow mutants have a more yellow shaded body colour. We'll use y+ to represent the wild type allele, and y to represent the mutant allele. y+ is dominant to y. The vestigial gene is on chromosome 2. Homozygote vestigial mutants have very short wings, and cannot fly. We'll...

You are doing a genetics experiment with fruit flies. In your first cross, you cross two true-breeding flies (P generation). The female parent is brown and wingless and the male parent is black with normal wings. All of the flies in the F1 generation are brown and have normal wings. In the following questions, please indicate the alleles associated with dominant phenotypes by uppercase letters and alleles associated with recessive phenotypes by lowercase letters. Assume the genes are not found...
