Morning glory plants homozygous for the F allele have pink flowers. What is a likely consequence of the F allele mutation?

A. It likely increases CHS mRNA degradation

B. *It likely reduces the level of CHS transcription

C. It likely causes a CHS enzyme with reduced function to be produced

D. It likely disrupts splicing of the CHS pre-mRNA

E. It likely causes an increase in CHS enzyme production

Homework Answers

Answer #1

B) it likely reduces the level of CHS transcription.

Pink flower contain intermediate level of CHS enzyme while red flower contain high level of CHS enzyme and white flowers lack CHS enzyme activity.

If CHS get degraded in that case it would result in white flowers.

Increase CHS enzyme result in red flower .

Disrupts splicing would result in non functional CHS hence result in white flowers.

Enzyme with reduce function result in white flowers .

Reduce transcription will produce less level of CHS and hence result in pink flower. As pink flower are a result of intermediate level of CSH enzyme present.
