Specific gene can be transfered to animal for (making transgenic animal) to make desired protein, and can also used them as a disease model.

Now lets take an example of transgenic cow in which we want to express the therapeutic protein. So here we initially isolate the gene for this protein and then we want to transfered to this animal.

Commonly microinjection is the method used to transfer the gene in animal. Here initially the female parent is super ovulated and then mated and then injected the desired gene to the pronuclei of formed zygote.

So these later become the part of animal genomes.And this progeny (animal) will produce the specific(therapeutic) protein. (we can also make a clone of this animal)

So in this case we are getting the milk from the cow having the therapeutic protein.
