Cas9 is used for studying gene function while dCas9 is used for gene editing.
They do not have a nuclear function so don’t cut target DNA.
They use a guide RNA to locate a specific DNA sequence within a cell.
Cas9 is found in prokaryotes but dCas9 is found in eukaryotes.

Cas9 Endonuclease Dead, also known as dead Cas9 or dCas9, it can be produce in the mutation in cas9. In cas 9 endonuclease activity is removed with the help of point mutaton in its domain. Its is unmated form dCas9 is used in CRISPR systems which is target specific genes , with PAM sequences nucleotides complementary to gRNA which allow cas9 to bind . in cas9 endonuclease is not present but it has 2 domains of it – RuvC and HNH domain
