Describe one factor that can alter the carrying capacity of a population?

Describe one factor that can alter the carrying capacity of a population?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Food availability is one of the major factor which can alter the carrying capacity of the population. If there is a finite supply of food, after sometime the carrying capacity will start decreasing and will keep on decreasing as the finite resource is being utilized and would soon be exhausted. Carrying capacity is the maximum number of individuals of a species that can be sustained in a specific environment at a given time and the finite resources.

how could i estimate the carrying capacity for a population using the jolly seber method? Some of the variables i have obtained include population estimate, dilution rate, apparent survival, finite rate of growth and intristic growth rate. I also have the jolly seber work book, so how can i estimate the carrying capacity from these parameters.

Biologists stocked a lake with 300 fish and estimated the carrying capacity (the maximal population for the fish of that species in that lake) to be 7000. The number of fish doubled in the first year. (a) Assuming that the size of the fish population satisfies the logistic equation dP/dt = kP(1−PK), determine the constant k, and then solve the equation to find an expression for the size of the population after t years. k = P(t) = (b) How...
