RuBisCO is an enzyme which has affinity for both carbon dioxide and oxygen. During hot climatic conditions, plants might close their stomata in order to prevent water loss via evaporation. This leads to build up of oxygen inside the plant as it is unable to diffuse out of the closed stomata. This causes an increase in the oxygen to carbon dioxide ratio. Now since RuBisCO has affinity for oxygen as well, it starts picking oxygen as substrate leading to photorespiration. Even the hot temperatures causes the enzyme's affinity to shift to oxygen more than carbon dioxide. Photorespiration leads to loss of energy and carbon fixing abilities & is considered a wasteful process.
