How will increases in atmospheric CO2 alter the distribution of C3 and C4 grasses in the Canadian prairies?
Due to the increasing atmospheric CO2 levels in Canadian prairies or grassland the distribution of C3 and C4 grasses will get altered. Since elevated level of atmospheric oxygen help in the nitrogen fixation process hence the population of C3 plants will increase significantly. More CO2 concentration will lead to higher yield of root, stem and leaves in C3 plants as compared to C4 plants. Because C3 plants are more responsive to CO2 concentration but C4 plants are less dependent of CO2 levels. Thus C3 plants will be invasion and C4 plants will render to invasion. Hence C3 plant will lead to a significant decrease in populatiom and C3 plants increase.
