Adaptive immunity develops in following manner- When a pathogen attacks on our body then during fighting with that infectious agent, our body retains a memory of that pathogen in the form of memory-B cells (so as to recognise the pathogen on its subsequent infection). This retention of memory develops adaptive immunity because if further infection occurs by the same pathogen, then our body quickly recognises that pathogen (due to retention of memory) and generates a stroy immune response against that.
