Answer #1

Corynebacterium pseudodiphtheriticum is a pathogenic gram positive bacteria and have following response against test as mentioned below:

POSITIVE TEST

Catalase: Positive

Lipase: Positive

Protease: Positive

Hydrogen Sulfide: Positive due to breakdown of sulfur containing amino acids

Nitrate reduction: Positive

Amylase: Positive (express blue color in presence of starch)

Glucose fermentation: Positive

NEGATIVE TEST

Citrate test: Negative

Lactose fermentation: Negative

Sucrose fermentation: Negative

Indole: Negative

I have an unknown microbe. I am trying to determine if it is Micrococcus Luteus or Micrococcus Lylae. The only difference between the two is that M. Luteus is + for inorganic nitrogen growth while M. Lylae is - for inirganic nitrigen growth. Can someone please help me understand the importance of that result as I try to determine the identity of the microbe.
