How do enzymes catalyze reactions?
Enzymes catalyse reactions by lowering the activation energy. Activation energy is the energy required to start the chemical reaction. It is also called as energy of activation. Enzymes lower the activation energy which brings substrates molecules colder together and favour their collision in most possible way. Enzymes have specific sites called active sites or catalytic sites or substrate sites. Substrate molecules bind to the active sites of the enzyme which brings these substrate molecules close together and favour their collision.
