Question

what is the effect of porphyrin and ethidium on BSSH II activity?

what is the effect of porphyrin and ethidium on BSSH II activity?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

BssHII is a restriction enzyme. Porphyrin is a heterocyclic macrocycle organic compounds and in its presence it acts as catalyst in the process of DNA cutting. It help in boosting the function of the BssHII restriction enzyme in fragmenting the DNA into desired fragments. The ethidium is responsible for causing a reduction in the mobility of DNA fragments. Since it slows down the mobility being an intercalating agent it acts as fluorescence and helps with detection of the movement of the fragments.
