Alcohol consumption leads to a decrease in the release of the hormone Antidiuretic hormone(ADH).
The antidiuretic hormone is released from the posterior pituitary when the body becomes hypertonic and thus causes the kidneys to reabsorb water from the tubules of the nephron into the body circulation, thus reverting the tonicity to normal and retain water in the body. When alcohol is consumed, the ADH function is impaired as there is less release of ADH and thus ADH is not able to direct the kidneys to reabsorb water, and thus water is released in the form of urine in this condition.
