Osmosis is movement of solvent from low solute concentration to high solute concentration.
More the solute concentration, more will be osmalirity of that sample and more negative will water potential.(water move from positive to negative potential).
Tonicity describes how an extracellular solution can change volume of cell by effecting Osmosis.
There are three type of Tonicity -
1,Hypertonic - a solution with higher content than a cell or another solution. So water will move from inside of cell to outside and So cell will shrink.
Hypotonic- A solution with lower solute content than a cell or another solution. So water moves inside of cell from outside and Cell swells in this Hypotonic solution.
Isotonic solution has same solute content as cell or another solution so no movement of water.
