My recent experiment was on Nucleic Acid and we extracted DNA from chicken blood. Can we apply this protocol to extract DNA from human blood? Explain and give reasons to support your answer whether it’s a YES or NO.

Answer #1

The answer will be No.

Chicken blood differs from human blood. All the red blood cells in chicken blood is nucleated. So, there is huge amount of DNA is present compared to human blood.this causes clogging of column-bed in conventional column based purification methods. DNA isolation from chicken blood requires reduction of sample volume or use of specific DNA purification kit to resolve this high amount of DNA issue. Where as no such reduction of sample volume is required to isolate DNA from human blood. There is much less amount of DNA to work with.
