Question 48 options: In glucose-alanine cycle,________ serves as a carrier of ammonia and of the carbon skeleton of pyruvate from skeletal muscle to liver. The ammonia is excreted, and______ is used to produce glucose, which is returned to the muscle.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

In glucose alanine cycle, glutamine synthetase , serves as a carrier of ammonia and of the carbon skeleton of pyruvate from skeletal muscle to liver.

The ammonia is excrreated and liver is used to produce glucose , which is returned to muscle.

The non toxic storage and transport of ammonia in the liver is glutamine ,so ammonia is loaded or carried by glutamine synthetase.

It occurs in all tissues of the body.

The ammonia is excreated and liver produces glucose by gluconeogenesis which is further transported to muscle.
