  1. Iron, zinc, and copper all function as part of antioxidant enzymes to combat oxidative stress. On the other hand, free (unbound) iron and copper can also act as pro-oxidants. Do you think that free zinc would also act as a pro-oxidant? Explain why or why not in 2-3 sentences.

Answer #1

Yes . Free zinc would also act as a pro-oxidant. Zn2+ have direct prooxidation and direct anti-oxidation capacity. Metallothionein enzyme can be induced by Zn2+. Under oxidative stress conditions, a zinc dependant transcription factor, MTF-1 can activate metallothionein and protoect cells from oxidative stress. Not only this, as a component of superoxide dismutase, Zn2+ is important in converting superoxide  into normal oxygen molecule. Other than this functions, Zn2+ is involved in protection of sulhydryl group in proteins, stabilization of Zinc-fingure protein and lipid peroxidation.

Does minimum wage cause unemployment? The minimum wage has evoked controversy since its passage as part of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938. Proponents of the minimum wage argue that a higher minimum wage will help create jobs, grow the economy, help the war on poverty, and will reduce wage inequality. Its critics stress that the minimum wage causes unemployment, hurts the economy, and actually harms the low-income people that were supposed to be helped. These are clearly very...
