What kind of pseudogenes are human DNA transposons?
Pseudogenes are imperfect copies of functional genes. They resemble functional genes but are non-functional in nature. They ariss by direct duplication of DNA or by reverse transcription of mRNA. Transposons are mobile genetic elements that change their position within the genome, often altering gene composition of the genome. They can occur by 'cut and paste' method or by 'copy and paste' method where a transposon is duplicated into some other location. It is in this duplication mechanism, that transposons function as pseudogenes.
