What is the epidemiological significance of Hymenolepis nana?
Hymenolepis nana is epidemologically more common than Hymenolepis dimunuta. The infection with Hymenolepis nana is a common cause of cestode function worldwide, with more frequent incidences in children. It prevalance is more in urban than rural areas. Mainly poor sanitary condition or infection from other patients have been the cause of this disease. It has hihgest prevalence in Central America. It is adifficult parasite to terminate. As per a 2006 study done in Mexico, it was found that 25% of the children aged 6-10 were infected . Some socioeconomic factors and lack of parent eductaion are strong influences for the infection. As per a study 24% in urban while 18% in rural areas have prevalance of this parasite.
