Describe what is meant by the antiparallel arrangement of DNA

Describe what is meant by the antiparallel arrangement of DNA

Homework Answers

Answer #1

two strands of DNA arranged in the opposite direction are called anti-parallel strands of DNA. A single strand had 2 ends, one is the 5' end with a OH where in the free phosphate group is attached to a deoxyribose sugar and the other is 3' end with a hydroxyl group is attched to a deoxyribose sugar. the two strands of DNA are arranged where in one strand has the 5' to 3' end (left strand) and other has 3' to 5' arrangement (right strand). the strands do not have 5' stands of both ends in one direction.

The double-strands of DNA are antiparallel. What does that mean? Choose one below The N-5' to C-3' orientations run in opposite directions . Purines line up on one strand and the pyrimidines on the other. The C-5' to C-3' orientations run in opposite directions. One stand of the helix turns to the right and the other turns to the left. 4
