  1. Acetyl-CoA and oxaloacetate combine to form Citric acid (hence the name "Citric acid cycle"). Enzyme involved is Citrate synthase.
  2. Citric acid is then converted into isocitric acid. The enzyme involved is Aconitase.
  3. Iso citric acid is converted into alpha-keto glutarate. The enzyme involved is isocitrate dehydrogenase.
  4. Alpha-ketoglutarate is then turned into succinyl-CoA. The enzyme is alpha-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase.
  5. Succinyl-CoA is converted to Succinate. The enzyme involved for this reaction is Succinyl-CoA synthetase.
  6. Succinate is converted to fumarate. The enzyme is Succinate dehydrogenase.
  7. Fumarate is converted to malate by enzyme called Fumarase.
  8. Malate is then converted to oxaloacetate by enzyme known as malate dehydrogenase.
  9. Oxaloacetate then again begins to combine with Acetyl CoA. Hence the cycle restarts.
