- The nucleic acid of a virus was extracted and examined. Given the following results: 35 Adenine; 15% thymine; 25% guanine; 25% cytosine. What can be hypothesized about the physical nature of the nucleic acid of this virus?

Answer #1

From this information,we can infer that this virus has single stranded DNA as genetic material.

Thymine is present in this nucleic acid of virus.so it is DNA.

If it is a RNA ,uracil is present instead of thymine.

From this %information of bases, we can see that %of adenine not equal to %of thymine.so it doesn't follow base pairing rule. So it is not a double stranded molecule.so it is single stranded.

If it is double stranded the percentage of adenine is equal to the percentage of thymine.(%of purine= %of pyrimidines).

Hope you got it.

Study hard, hard work will not disappoint you.

Which of the following is an accurate statement regarding the relationship between primers and nucleic acid synthesis? During DNA replication, primers are used to initiate DNA synthesis, and these primers are incorporated into the final daughter strand products. During DNA replication, leading strands are synthesized by DNA polymerase III without utilizing a primer. During DNA replication, every Okazaki fragment synthesized by DNA polymerase III is elongated from a separate RNA primer. Primase catalyzes the de novo polymerization of DNA. Thymine...

For the purposes of this problem we will ignore the fact that viral genomes can also be segmented or nonsegmented. You will need to do some outside research and examine the functional differences between two types of enzymes: exonucleases and endonucleases. Suppose four viral genomes were examined in the laboratory. The following information was obtained for each viral genome: Genome of virus 1: A = 28%, C= 22%, G = 24%, T = 0%, U = 26%, resistant to exonucleases but...

There has been an annual 3.1% prevalence of Zika virus in South American countries since 1947. Only 1% of all cases resulted in any DALY count (all cases, any year). In 2015, clinicians observed increased microcephaly among children born to women who had been ill from Zika within the last 12 months. A new screening test was developed with more sensitivity to understand the rate ofZika among women ages 20-35 in three South American countries. It can detect Zika in...
