Answer #1

Q: List events of B cell maturation in the spleen?

  • B-lymphotcytes are a type of white blood cells which play an important role in humoral immune response..
  • The maturation process of B celll starts with B-cell precursors present in the bone marrow (primary hematopoietic tissue). Self reacting B-cells are first eliminated by negative selection. The remaining ~10 % immature B-cells enters into bloodstream and migrate to secondary lymphoid organ (spleen) for final stages of maturation.
  • Immature B cells express IgM and IgG on its surface whereas mature B cells express IgM as well as IgD antibodies on its surface. These migrated B cells are called transitional type 1 B cells and these cells subsequently are developed into transitional type 2 B cells. These two populations acts as a precursor for mature B-cells. B cells that fail to mature die through apoptosis mechanism.
