Pencillin is bactericidal i.e it kills bacteria directly.

Pencillin interferes with the cross linkage of peptidoglycans and inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis.

Tetracycline is bacteriostatic i.e it does not kill bacteria but prevents the bacteria from multiplying effectively thereby reducing its volume in the body. As a result host immune system will clear the bacteria from the body.

Tetracycline interferes with protein synthesis by binding to bacterial ribosomes.
