Question

Stem cells divide to form _____.

Stem cells divide to form _____.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Stem cells are of 2 types- embryonic and adult/tissue stem cell. Embryonic stem cells of seen in the blastocyst stage of embryo. They are considered pluripotent because they can differentiate into all different cells of the body.Tissue stem cells are seen in fetus, child and adult .They are found in various tissues such as brain, bone marrow, skin, eyes etc. They are considered multi potent because they can differentiate into various types of specialised cells(eg:- hematopoietic stem cell into different blood cells), but not into all cells of the body.

Stem cells have the ability to self renew as well as differentiate.By self renewal ,stem cell undergo mitosis to produce another stem cell.By differentiation specialised cells are formed.

Hence the answer for this question would be stem cells divide to form 2 stem cells or specialised cells.
