which has a higher fidelity? RNA dependent RNA polymerase or DNA dependent DNA polymerase and why?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

DNA Polymerase has a higher fidelity than RNA polymerase because it is involved in replication. So if a wrong nucleotide is added in the genome , it can cause mutation in whole genome which can be passed to daughter strand. While RNA polymerase is involved in transcription of a gene , so if a single mRNA of a gene is mutated or has wrong nucleotide then it will not cause damage to whole genome only a protein will be affected . This is the reason that DNA polymerase have proofreading activity
