Question

phototosynthesis

phototosynthesis

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Photosynthesis is the process by which plants and other autotrophs produce organic sugars like glucose and oxygen from carbon dioxide and water in the presence of sunlight using a pigment called chlorophyll.

Photosynthesis is divided into two reactions, light reaction and dark reaction.

In light reaction, one water molecule is split into hydrogen and oxygen using sunlight. This is called photolysis of water and gives 2 excited electrons. These elections are transferred through a series of compounds to synthesize one ATP and one NADPH molecule.

In dark reaction, no sunlight is needed and it is an light independent reaction. In this reaction phase, the NADPH synthesized in light reaction are used to synthesize glucose from CO2 by enzyme called RuBisCO.

The sugar produced by plant is used for cellular activities by respiration.
