How is the protein TITIN used in biotechnology field? Give a solid application of titin (for powerpoint presentation)?
Ans. Titin is a giant sarcomeric protein which forms the third filament system in protein alongwith actin and myosin. Titin gives rise to sarcomere assembly and passive tension of myofibrils. In humans this protein is encoded by the the TTN gene. As per the biotechnological study the gene which encodes for titin is located on the long arm of chromosome 2 and posses 363 exons. It is concerned with the diseases such as limb girdle muscular dystrophy, cardiomyopathy and tibial muscular dystrophy. Alternative splicing do creates some stop codon which ameliorates its effect.
