A cell that has a diploid number of 6 has 3
chromosomes lined up in the center of the cell, each chromosome
containing two joined sister chromatids. What phase of cell cycle
is this cell in?
a. metaphase I of meiosis
b. metaphase II of meiosis
c. metaphase of mitosis
d. telophase I of meiosis
so... I already know that the answer is C but I am confused why it can't be in meiosis.. thank you
ANSWER - CORRECT ANSWER IS C
metphase in mitosis have same amout of dna even when attached with sister chromatids ,BUT in metaphase I of the meiosis the amount of dna is same but they are with hmologous chromosome and not sister chromatids, and when changes to sister chromatids in metaphse 2 of meiosis dna amount gets half, thats why only in the metaphse of mitosis the above situation can be related, and not with the meiosis metaphse I nor with meiosis metaphase II.
hence the correct answer is C, and not that meiosis metaphase I or II
