Dinitrophenol disrupts the inner mitochondrial membrane causing pores to develop between the intermembrane space and the inner matrix. How many ATP would form for 1 Acetyl-coA?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

If the inner mitochondrial membrane disrupts and pores occurs in the intermembrane space and the inner matrix, the protons will leak which are important for ATP production from NADH and FADH. So the energy won't be produced from these.

From 1 acetyl CoA 3 NADH, 1 FADH, and 1 ATP is produced. But due to disruption of the inner mitochondrial membrane the energy in NADH and FADH won't be converted into ATP.

So only 1 ATP will be produced from the 1 Acetyl CoA.
