What is the main source of inaccuracy in using a urine culture to detect a urinary tract infection?
Main source of inaccuracy in using urine culture to detect
urinary tract infection is :
It's almost impossible that we collect uncontaminated sample
.
As urine exiting from urethra is highly likeable to pickup bacteria
from it's surrounding skin and outer opening of urinary tract , and
that results in sample ( 1 ot of 4 ) being contaminated.
UTIs technique assume that urine is sterile whereas it is not so
due to presence of hundreds of bacteria in bladder , and thus
assumption of no existence of bacteria in bladder is wrong. So,
contamination in urine may actually be from inside the bladder,
outer opening of urinary tract or skin nearby giving inaccurate
results while detecting urinary tract infection.
