Explain what an organelle gene is. Give an example.
Answer : The genes which are located in the semiautonomous organelles such as mitochondria and chloroplasts. These two organisms are partly depends on the nuclear genome and imports proteins synthesized in the cytoplasm and the remaining proteins are coded by their own genome.
Example of mitochondrial gene : Mitochondrial gene ND4, whose mutation results in the substitution of Arg to His residue in a polypeptide of complex I resulting in a disease called Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON)
