Short Answer 2
Describe what are believed to be the target cells (there will be more than one type) that coronavirus recognizes. What is one of the the receptor proteins present on these target cells that the virus recognizes. Describe what is known about this receptor protein.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Ans - Coronaviruses recognize a variety of host receptors, infect many hosts, and are health threats to humans and animals. The receptor-binding S1 subunit of coronavirus spike proteins contains two distinctive domains, the N-terminal domain (S1-NTD) and the C-terminal domain (S1-CTD), both of which can function as receptor-binding domains (RBDs). S1-NTDs and S1-CTDs from three major coronavirus genera recognize at least four protein receptors and three sugar receptors and demonstrate a complex receptor recognition pattern

1. Multiple choice: Self-reactive B cells can be eliminated from the repertoire at several stages of B cell maturation, including immature B cells that have already emigrated from the bone marrow into the circulation. This latter stage of tolerance induction is critical because: A. Not all self-antigens are expressed or present in the bone marrow during B cell development. B. Immature circulating B cells are more sensitive to antigen stimulation than the developing B cells in the bone marrow. C....
