Q: what is the difference between a starch and hektoen plate ?

Starch Agar was formulated for the cultivation of Neisseria . It is able to detech mocroorganisms from food and clinical samples that can hydrolyse starch.
while hektoen agar is a selective and differential agar media that is used to grow Salmonella and Shigell from clinical samples. It has indicators tp detect lactose fermentation and H2S production and also the inhibitors to prevent growth of gram positive mocroorganisms.
