If AaBbCcDd is mated to AaBbCcDd (no gene interactions among all genes), what is the probability that the offspring will have either the phenotype AaB_CcDD or the genotype AAbbCcD_?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

AaB_CcDD have 2 forms AaBbCcDD and AaBBCcDD. We have to find probability of both.

Similarly for, AAbbCcDD or AAbbCcDd for 2nd genotype.

We can find probability by multiplying probabilities of finding required genotype at that loci by same for other loci.

For AaB_CcDD , probability will be =>1/2*3/4*1/2*1/4 = 3/64

For AAbbCcD_, probability will be => 1/4*1/4*1/2*3/4 =3/128.

HINT- For getting Aa probability in AaBbCcD_ , see the probability of getting Aa from the A loci of the 2 parent genotypes. And do same for other loci also and then multiply like I did.

Coat color in rodents is known to be a trait resulting from gene interactions (gene modifier effect). The two genes involved are A and C. Allele C results in black pigmentation and is dominant to c (albino). Allele A results in the agouti phenotype if the rodent carries at least one dominant C allele. One albino rodent from unknown genotype mates an agouti rodent that is known to be homozygous dominant for both genes. The offspring resulting from that mating...
