Question:-
Answer:- Plasmids are extrachromosomal cicular DNA present in
the bacterial cells. There are different types of plasmids in the
bacterial cell :-
- Fertility plasmid :- Also reffered to as F-plasmid. This
plasmid helps in formation of sex pili and thus helps in
conjugation between the bacterial cells
- Resistance plasmids:- These are plasmids which contain genes
which provide resistance to various antibiotics to the bacterial
cell.
- Col plasmids:- These are plasmids which contain genes for
various proteins or toxins which can kill other organisms.
- Degradative plasmids:- These are plasmids which contain gene
that enable a bacterial cell for the digestion of specific
substances, for example, toluene and salicylic acid.
- Virulence plasmids :- These are plasmids which turn a bacterium
into a pathogen.
