Question

given these two genotypes a...B...c...d A..b..C..D what genotypes would the progeny have post reciprocal cross over

given these two genotypes a...B...c...d A..b..C..D
what genotypes would the progeny have post reciprocal cross over

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The reciprocal crossover occurs when the two double stranded DNA undergo common sequence swap. In the above example two double stranded DNA sequence are as follow-

  • Sequence 1--- a..B..c..d
  • Sequence 2--- A..b..C..D

Depending upon the site of crossover or recombination three different progeny can be made post reciprocal cross over

  • Progeny 1---- a...B...C...D (S1), A....b...c....d (S2) (cross over between b and c)
  • Progeny 2---- a...b....C...D (S1), A....B....c....d (S2) ( crossover between a and b)
  • Progeny 3---- a....B...c...D (S1), A....b....C...d (S2) (crossover between c and d)

Recombination via crossing over is being studied in a diploid species for four genes known to be on the same chromosome. Prior study demonstrates that the genes are arranged as follows with only the two chromosomal genotypes shown being initially present in the population. The two chromosomes genotypes are     A-------B--------c---------D                                                                                     a--------b-------C---------D Which of the following is the best answer to the question: Which chromosomal genotypes could be observed in the progeny of matings in a population following...
