Explain why some of the marine organisms that live in the ocean depths tend to be much larger than their counterparts in flatter areas.
The organisms living in the depth of ocean tends to have a greater body size than those living in the flatter areas. This property of deep organisms are known as Deep Sea Gigantism.
There are two rules to explain this:
1. KLEIBR'S RULE:
The deep organisms depend on the food that is dropped from above. That means there is scarcity of food. So the deep organisms need to be more efficient that surface organisms and hence they increases in size.
2. BERGMAN'S RULE:
This rule states that increase in body size with decreasing temperature. So deep organisms have mostly cold surrounding amd hence they tend to increase in size.
