Why is ATP not worth the same amount in different cell types (i.e. have a different ΔG) in multicellular organisms?
Why is ATP not worth the same amount in different cell types (i.e. have a different ΔG) in multicellular organisms?
Answer
Electrostatic repulsion between phosphate groups within a molecule of ATP.
Explanation:
ATP is nitrogenous base adenine, as 5 carbon sugar (rubose) and 3 phosphate groups. When ATP hydrolyse and form ADP. This hydrolysis need Delta G of -30.5 KJ/mol for one molecule of ATP.
{Note : In living cell delta G is -57KJ/mol}
In cells the exergonic reaction of ATP hydrolysis takes place along with endergonic reaction such as cellular process. Some of the individual reaction is equal to the delta G.
The delta G associated with ATP hydrolysis due to the repulsion of phosphate groups in ATP molecules.
