5) ________________ are DNA sequences that code for a functional molecule. They can have variations called _______________. The variations are passed down from each of two parents in a _______________ organism, like humans. Together, the two variations an organism has is it’s genotype. The genotype can either be _________________ or ______________. Further the apparent phenotype can be determined depending on whether the _______________(same as second blank) is either ________________ or ________________. There are occurrences where both can be expressed leading to a hybrid of the two. This is known as _______________. It is also possible for them to both be expressed in different areas of the organism’s body via ______________(20pts).

Answer #1

Ans. Genes are DNA sequences that code for a functional molecule. They can have variations called alleles. The variations are passed down from each of two parents in a sexual organism, like humans. Together, the two variations in an organism has is its genotype. The genotype can either be homozygous or heterozygous. Further, the apparent phenotype can be determined depending on whether the allele is either dominant or recessive. There are occurances where both can be expressed leading to a hybrid of the two. This is known as incomplete dominance. It is also possible for them to both be expressed in different areas of organism's body via codominance.

Probability and Genetics Lab In heredity, we are concerned with the occurrence, every time an egg is fertilized, of the probability that a particular gene or chromosome will be passed on through the egg, or through the sperm, to the offspring. As you know, genes and chromosomes are present in pairs in each individual, and segregate as they go into the gametes (egg and sperm). There are two possible genes (alleles) that the egg or sperm might obtain from each...
