DNA profiling is the process of analyzing the DNA characteristics of the individuals. It is widley used in criminal investigations by comparing the DNA profiling of suspect and the DNA collected from the evidence spot. It is also applied in home based DNA paternity rest with the group of genetic markers identified by DNA profiling in the subject. The basic principle behind the DNA profiling is the identificationa dn compartison of the two subjects DNA sequence. The genetic markers applied in the DNA profiling are 10 msot common STR loci such as D3S1358, VWA, D16S539, D2S1338, D8S1179, D21S11, D18551, D19S433, THO1 and FGA along with Amelogenin as the gender marker. The process involves the fragmentation with restriction endonucleases to different lengths and resolved in gel electrophoresis for further analysis.
