Describe how many opioid receptor subtypes exist.

Then, use Multalign to generate an image of multiple sequence alignment results.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

1) The opioid system has been divided into four subtypes that work on endogenous peptides :

  • MOP - mu opioid peptide receptor - inhibits respiration and modulates the hormonal and neurotransmitter releases
  • DOP - delta opioid peptide receptor - supraspinal and spinal analgesia and similar modulation of the releases
  • KOP - kappa opioid peptide receptor - psychotomimetic effects and slow gastrointestinal transit
  • NOP - nociceptin orphanin FQ peptide receptor - modulates pain

Use µ = 2.5 and σ = 1 to generate many independent sets of ten random numbers, each. If I were to repeatedly carry out the one-sample t-test and significance level α = 0.05 to test the hypothesis that the mean µ used to generate those random numbers was µ = 2.5 for each new vector of ten numbers, how often, on average, would you expect to reject the null hypothesis? Explain how you come to your conclusion.

Many times, multiple variables can be correlated, affecting the outcome of the dependent variable. Describe, in detail, the process for determining if more than one variable contributes to the outcome of a single dependent variable. How accurate is a regression analysis and how do you know? What attributes of the analysis will determine whether the analysis is accurate and to what extent? Can inaccurate regression analyses be used to an analyzer’s benefit? Explain in detail

What is the Born-Oppenheimer approximation and why is it significant? Describe how you would use the Born-Oppenheimer approximation to generate potential energy curves for the two lowest energy states of and sketch the resulting curves with properly labeled axes. How would you characterize the bonding in these states based upon these curves and why? What is MO theory and how well does its predictions agree with the “exact” Born-Oppenheimer results for ? A sketch might help.

1.) Let’s use glucose as the metabolic fuel for aerobic respiration. How many ATPs would be formed if NAD+were the sole electron carrier cofactor formed throughout the metabolic pathways of glycolysis, the citric acid cycle, and oxidative phosphorylation? How many H+would have to be pumped from the intermembrane space and into the matrix for the ATP synthase to generate all of these ATPs? Answer question 2 (part a and b) but replace NAD+with FAD. In ATP synthase, describe the process...
