How is bacteria and yeast capable of making insulin? what tool was use to teach the organism?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

To create insulin from bacteria and yeast, they are first injected with the recombinant plasmid containing the gene of insulin. This plasmid is then incorporated into the bacterial and yeast genome. So whenever the bacterial cell divides the gen for insulin will also grow and the protein for insulin will be formed which is then extracted from the cells by lysing them.

The tool is recombinant DNA technology which is used to insert the insulin gene into bacterial and yeast cells.
