is the gene that causes tailness in cats dominant or recessive?

show the cross between a manx cat and a normal cat.

find the phenotype and genotype ratio of the F1 generation

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The gene that cal tailless in the cats is M = Manx tailless gene (dominant with high penetrance).  Cats with the homozygous genotype (MM) die before birth and Cats with the heterozygous genotype (Mm) show severely shortened tail length, ranging from taillessness to a partial, stumpy tail.

Parents- Mm x mm

tailless cat x normal cat

F1-

M m
m Mm mm
m Mm mm

50% tailles cats with Mm genotype

50% cats with tails i.e normal cats with mm genotype/

PHENOTYPE RATIO = TAILESS : TAILED = 1:1

GENOTYPE RATIO = Mm : mm= 1 : 1

Simple Dominance with 2 genes A gene in cats causes them to be black (dominant) or brown (recessive). A second gene causes cats to be agouti (have stripes on their hairs) or non-agouti (solid colored hairs). If you did a dihybrid cross between two black haired agouti cats, what fraction of the offspring would be expected to have each phenotype? If a dihybrid black agouti cat mated with a brown cat that was heterozygous for the agouti gene, what fraction...

In cats, curled ears result from an allele (Cu) that is dominant over an allele (cu) for normal ears. Black color results from an independently assorting gene (G) that is dominant over an allele for gray (g). A gray cat homozygous for curled ears is mated with a homozygous black cat with normal ears. a. What is the phenotype and genotype of the F1 b. A goldfish is homozygous dominant for O for the gene for orange pigmented scales, but it is also homozygous for the dominant B allele of a gene that causes black scales. Any goldfish with a dominant B allele has black scales. A second goldfish is homozygous for teh recessive o allele of the orange gene and makes no orange, but it is homozygous bb at the black scale gene. This fish is white. A. Albinism is due to a recessive gene. a. Give the results (the genotypes, phenotypes, and their respective frequencies) of a classic Mendelian cross between a mouse with albinism and another mouse homozygous for pigmented coat color. This is the F1 generation. b. Give the results of a cross between 2 mice of the F1 generation: what are the expected phenotypic ratio and the expected genotypic ratio?

Consider a cross between an individual heterozygous for hitchhiker’s thumb and homozygous recessive for freckles (Jjrr, normal thumb and no freckles) and an individual homozygous dominant for both traits (JJRR, Normal thumb and freckles). Determine the genotype and phenotype ratios of the offspring. Assume Mendelian inheritance is occurring.
