How is mRNA of the nematode silenced in RNA interference?

How is mRNA of the nematode silenced in RNA interference?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Ans

  • Nematode such as root knot nematodes and cyst nematode are interaction with plant.
  • In the plant cell when the double stranded DNA of the plant interact with dicer molecule. The dicer cleaves the dsDNA into fragments. These fragments are called siRNA
  • When the nematodes in interaction with of plants they uptake the si RNA molecule during feeding process from the feed tube
  • These siRNA molecule binds with the rna induce silencing complex (RISC) of nematode and activate RISC
  • The RISC along with siRNA binds with the target mRNA
  • These complex binding activating RNAse and cleaves the mRNA.
  • Thus, RNA interference causes the mRNA degradation and silencing of the mRNA as mRNA can no longer synthesize the protein.

RNA interference (RNAi) is a natural process by which cells suppress the activity of specific genes by targeting and degrading mRNA. One way RNAi has been harnessed by agricultural scientists is to protect plants from pest attacks on the roots of corn plants. Choose the answer below that correctly describes the steps in the RNAi process that eventually result in degradation of the target mRNA. 1. The protein Dicer recognizes double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) 2. Dicer cuts up the dsRNA into...
