Which direction will our mRNA molecule be TRANSLATED: left to right or right to left? How do you know?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

mRNA molecule will be translated from 5' to 3' direction.

Anticodon (3'->5') binds complementary to mRNA (5'->3').

Protein is synthesized from N-terminus to C-terminus. tRNA brings new amino acid which will form amide bond with carboxylic acid group of terminal amino acid on growing polypeptide chain, again leaving free carboxylic acid group for upcoming amino acid in queue.

Left to right or right to left depends on the direction from where mRNA is inserted onto ribosome from 5'-end.

A beam of electrons is shot from left to right (+x direction) at a speed of 3 x 105 m/s through a pair of plates that are 3 cm apart and are uniformly charged. They produce a force of 4.8 x 10–17 N upward on the electron (+y direction).   So that our results are unambiguous, vectors pointing from left to right will be called +x, and from bottom to top (along the surface of the paper) will be +y.   Vectors...

Imagine that James (who is right-handed) and Kate (who is left-handed) have two children: Nate (left-handed) and Nora (right-handed). We know that right-handedness is dominant over left-handedness, and that this gene follows Mendellian laws. Determine the genotype for each of the four family members, and then explain how you know.
