You and your friend have gone hiking when suddenly he starts experiencing difficulty breathing. He tells you he has asthma, and you rush to find his inhaler in the backpack. What most likely happened to cause his asthma attack and how did it hamper his breathing? Will the inhaler help? why?

When the person has asthma , his bronchi or bronchioles get constricted when the person is exposed to some trigger agent. Now if the person has gone hiking , the oxygen pressure at high altitudes is very low , due to which the person must have faced the asthma attack.

The inhaler for asthma contains medication called as albuterol , which binds to the receptors in the airways , causing relaxation of muscle and subsequently dilation of airways.

So the person will able to get in more air or oxygen comfortably , and his problem will subside.
