Question: Which of the following is false concerning anaerobic respiration of a glucose molecule?
A) ATPs (4) are made by substrate level phosphorylation
B) The terminal electron acceptor is closer to the top of the electron transport stairwell than is O2
C) ATPs are made by oxidative phosphorylation but the yield is less than with O2 as the terminal electron acceptor, because of fewer proton pumping steps
D) The ATP yield by OP is about 20 with nitrile as the terminal electron acceptor
E) none of the above is false
Please explain.
Answer - C. ATPs are made by oxidative phosphorylation but the yield is less than with O2 as the terminal electron acceptor, because of fewer proton pumping steps
Option A is correct. It only produce 4 ATP by substrate level phosphorylation.
B. also correct.
D - In anerobic bacteria some times other than oxygen the terminal acceptor of electron are occured by some other compounds like nitrate. It yield ATP higher than normal anaerobic resipiration bacteria. So, this also true.
The only option C. This is false because if we not have any terminal acceptor like nitrate no oxidative phosphorylation is possible.
