consider the following information. A new prokaryotic organism, Biochemistreus whineous, is found. It has double-stranded DNA for its circular chromosome. Its chromosome contains cytosine, guanine, adenine, and 6-methyluracil, and two other complementary bases chemistry and biology. Its mRNA, tRNA and rRNA look and act just like E. coli with the exception of the two additional bases. It’s replicating DNA polymerase works just like E. coli DNA polymerase. The polymerases that make mRNA, tRNA and rRNA for this organism work just like E. coli. Its proteins have 33 different amino acids.

1. Which of the following statements is most likely true regarding Biochemistreus whineous?
A. It has more Okazaki fragments than E. coli.
B. It has more primers than E. coli..
C. It has more codons than E. coli.
D. It has more replicating forks than E. coli..
E. None of the above

2. This organism would probably not have:
a. primers. b. Okazaki fragments. c. rRNA d. helicase e. None of the above

3.During replication, this organism would use more ______ than E. coli
a. synthetases b. tRNA c. rRNA d. mRNA e. None of the above

4. It is reasonable to assume that this organism has ______ stop codons.
a. 1 b. 2 c. 3 d. more than three e. None of the above

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Q1) Since there are two additional bases in the organism, the number of triplet codons will be (4)6 = 4096 codons

Therefore option C is correct.

Q2) This organism is having primers as well as okazaki fragments as DNA polymerase works just like that of E.coli

rRNA is also present

Helicase is also present as required for the unwinding of double stranded DNA during replication.

Therefore option e is correct.

Q3) out of the given options, none of the items are required in replication.

Therefore option e is correct.

Q4) Since the number of codons is more than E. coli, therefore it is reasonable to assume that the organism has more than 3 stop codons.

Therefore option d is correct.
