If a leaf tissue cell of a barley plant with a diploid number of 14 chromosomes (2n=14) undergoes mitosis, how many chromosomes are in each daughter cell?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The daughter cell will have same number of chromosome , because mitosis is equational division. At the end mitosis the daughter cells retain same number of chromosome as in parent cell. 2n= 14. It take place in somatic cell, in cell repair , etc. Each cell carry same chromosome as in parent cell.

The chromosome will be half number in daughter cells produced from gametic cell.where the chromosome will be reduced to half . It is reduction division. Meosis helps to establish genetic variation.

A certain organism has diploid number of chromosomes 2n = 4. Show the following two cases: - metaphase of mitosis, where the organism is trisomic for the 2nd chromosome (2n+1 = 5) - metaphase of meiosis I, without any abnormalities Note: Feel free to 'write' chromosomes using X, for example like this (no need to draw the cell or draw spindle fibers): Metaphase: XX XX XX XX XX
