Many marine vertebrates, including mammals, fish, birds, and reptiles, make long range migrations, which are typically related to breeding grounds/nurseries. HOW do the above animals find their way across such great distances, often returning every year to the same location? Give at least three different examples from the vertebrate species listed above.

There have been many explanation to this question but not a single answer is effectively accepted.

Explanation 1: use of magnetic field; the earth has been considered as a huge magnet and the poles are considered as the magnets extreme poles so using this magnetic field these migratory animals are able to find their way.

Explanation 2: some nocturnal animals are even able to use the star constipation for navigation. They travel at night using the consilationnas their map.

Explanation 3: Another way is that these animals are able to mark their path through river, lakes, mountains etc. They follow such path to reach their breeding ground. One such example is the pacific salmon.
